Prof. Jesse Uneke
Vice Chancellor
Prof. C. Jesse Uneke is a Professor of Medical Parasitology & Health Policy/Systems.
He obtained his PhD in Parasitology from University of Jos Nigeria, where he commenced his academic career in
the AIDS/Leishmaniasis Research Laboratory as a Research Fellow. In 2003, he was appointed a Lecturer
in the Department of Medical Microbiology/Parasitology of Faculty of Clinical Sciences,
Ebonyi State University where he rose to the rank of Professor in 2015.
Prof Uneke believes strongly in mentorship, intersectoral collaboration,
evidence-informed policymaking and independent productive scholarship.
Between 2008 and 2021, Prof Uneke has received up to 20 different research grants from international
funding organizations and served as national/regional consultant to mainly WHO, IDRC, USAID, Hewlett
Foundation and WAHO in various projects across Africa.
He has more than 120 peer reviewed scientific publications in reputable high-ranking international journals (with more than 93 of his publications indexed in PubMed), and several other publications in Nigerian scientific journals. Prof. Uneke’s Scopus publication h-index as of June 2021 is 28points. He has travelled to over 30 countries within and outside Africa. He is the Editor-in-Chief of EBSU Journal of Nature and Associate Editor of Health Research Policy & Systems a foremost international Journal of Health Policy & Systems Research. Until his appointment as the Vice-Chancellor of David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences, he was the immediate past Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) of Ebonyi State University, from April 2019 to May 2021. He hails from Ohaozara LGA of Ebonyi State, and married with children.
