The

University Library

On behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, I am pleased to welcome you to the University Library of David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences, Uburu, Ebonyi State, Nigeria.

The library serves as the centre of learning resources and the academic hub of this great citadel of learning.

The university library is operating a 21st-century service delivery system, targeted at satisfactorily meeting the users' learning, research, and information needs, especially students and academic staff.

The library is programmed for the delivery of functional services with an emphasis on supporting the mandate of the university in areas of teaching, learning, research, and community services.

In addition, the university library operates a hybrid system of onsite and online resources and services, and as well, responds quickly to the needs of the users in line with global principles of library and information services in the digital era.

The library has the following divisions:

a. Technical Services:

The various operations in the library executed out of the sight of library users are integrated under technical services. This division is responsible for the acquisition, cataloguing and classification of acquired books and other categories of information resources in the library. The division is also involved in indexing, abstracting, and associated bibliographic services in the university library. Technical services facilitate other library services through processing and organizing acquired information resources according to the various branches of knowledge, thereby enabling easy accessibility and utilization.

b. Users’ Services:

The major interest of libraries is to satisfy library users' information and research needs. This division is in charge of rendering direct services to the users or readers, especially students and other members of the university community. The services covered here are reference services, circulation services (lending services involving charging and discharging of books), current awareness services (CAS), selective dissemination of information (SDI) services, and reprographic services.

c. E-Library, Digital Applications and Academic Support Services:

These are the online information services rendered to library users; their locations notwithstanding. The usual library and information services that are facilitated online using digital technologies and e-resources like e-books, e-journals, social media platforms, blogs, etc, are covered here. Examples are enabling access to e-books and e-journals, digital reference services like Ask-a-Librarian, institutional repositories, etc.

d. Scholarly Communication Services:

Universities are centres for research and scholarly engagements. Academic libraries are actively involved in facilitating scholarly activities of university lecturers, researchers, scholars and even students. Some of the scholarly communication services of the university library are information literacy programme (information use instructions), literature searching services, citation and referencing styles, best practices in research and publishing, scholarly communication systems, enabling global visibility of research findings and published works, conferences and workshops/seminars, book publishing services (DUFUHS Press), and the likes.
